It’s been more than ten years since we played our first gig together, a bunch of like-minded jammers brought together by our mutual love of traditional bluegrass, presented with a meagre opportunity: free beer and fifty bucks! And it didn’t go too badly. Word went out that there was a new bluegrass band that had emerged from the bluegrass club in Vancouver, and some foolhardy soul took a chance and hired us to play our first festival. It was during that trip that we truly became a band, formed by the shared terror at playing a festival stage, burgeoning camaraderie over the long miles, nights in cheap hotels, and watching other bands do what we wanted to do. Between then and now we’ve played countless shows, some seemingly inconsequential others life-changing, made some records, and always, always had a lot of fun. Most of the songs we’ve pulled together for this anniversary recording have appeared on many of our setlists over the last ten years. They are, for the most part, standards of the genre, our bluegrass favourites. Maybe you’ve had the chance to hear us play them live; we’ve endeavoured to capture that energy here. In any case, we hope you enjoy this recording as much as we have enjoyed making it, a labour of love that began a decade ago.
